7 Lifesavers

Where are they Hiding?

When Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine,” he very well could have been talking about spices. Spices and herbs have been used in traditional medicine for literally hundreds of years—and with good reason.

Spices are teeming with phytochemicals that have a wide range of health benefits, such as reducing blood sugar, easing nausea, lowering inflammation, fighting bacteria, supporting healthy digestion, relieving pain and even stimulating circulation.

Seven of the most potent in these areas include:

  • Cayenne—ease pain, promote weight loss, and reduce inflammation

  • Cinnamon—balance blood sugar; reduce glucose levels; lower LDL, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels

  • Curry—reduce inflammation, lower cholesterol levels, and protect against prostate, breast, skin, and colon cancer

  • Garlic—antibiotic, lower LDL and cholesterol levels, decrease stroke risk, and protect against colds

  • Ginger—ease nausea, lower inflammation, lower cholesterol levels, and decrease joint pain

  • Parsley—ease UTIs, reduce risk for cancer, and banish bad breath

  • Rosemary—reduce inflammation and promote brain health and memory
